So this year has been an interesting one to say the least. At the beginning of the year one of the first things we did was start a research paper and I was a little worried about how this year was going to go. After we got our papers written, though, we started blogging. I had never blogged before this year. It was something that I never had any interest in. Our first blogging assignments were a very different experience for me. We read the book Night, and then started blogging with students in a completely different state. At points the discussions got very heated and opinionated, and I enjoyed these discussions. Then we started our own blogs, which was an even more different experience for me.
Throughout the year we have done a variety of different things. I think my most favorite thing to do was the I am from poem. I really enjoyed this because you got to see a different side of people through their words. I also liked being able to show people I little bit more of who I am and why I am who I am. I think this is the assignment that I put the most effort and emotion in to. I enjoyed this one the most.
Another project that I enjoyed was the Forgiveness essay. This one was slightly difficult to do because we had a limited amount of words and sentences that we could use. I enjoyed it, though, because it was a paragraph based on our opinion, and I am a very opinionated person.
the project that I liked next was writing a poem of my own. I enjoy poetry, but it is fairly difficult to write your own poems. I enjoyed the challenge though, and think I came up with a decent poem.
I also enjoyed doing paintings throughout the year. I did a painting of what the camps look like when the trains of people arrive. It had a path that split in two directions, one way leading to the barracks and the other one leading to a gas chamber. I didn't get this posted to my blog though and now I think the painting is gone.
The project that I enjoyed the least was probably the research paper, although I think we probably should have worked a little bit more on it and learning how to write a paper well. The subject of my paper was the Polish victims of the Holocaust and how they are usually overlooked. The Jews usually get all the attention, as victims, when the Holocaust is talked about, the Polish victims are not usually talked about as much. My paper talked about how much Poland and the Polish people lost and called to attention the fact that not only the Jews suffered during the Holocaust.
Over all I think this year went pretty good. At some points I felt like what we were doing had nothing to do with English and sometimes it felt more like a computers or history class. But looking back I see that everything we were doing might not have been my idea of what we needed to learn, but I realize that what we did learn will probably help me in the future. Blogging was a new experience for me and it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoyed the year way more than I originally thought I would.
